Yes! The phrase "compare yourself to your past self" hasn't felt so true to me, because it implies that our past self is bad/not good enough. By saying: "I am better than yesterday", it also means we reject our past, and therefore, a core aspect of ourselves.

I try to set my own goals and compete to do better aginst myself. That way I work at my own pace and keep my head down. I also try to help those who might be less experienced and give them helpful tips if they ask. For sure we can become paranoid and worried about others when we loose focus on bettering ourselves.
