Yes, yes, and yes, to all of this! Great post, Harshini!
My hobbies include reading, collecting (info, stamps, books, etc), doodling, designing, and listening to music. Currently Iām on a kick of coloring every morning (adult coloring books + Crayola markers). š
This is so really. For a second, I thought I had written this article lol. I'm still in the phase of trying to figure out what to do with these interests.
A train of thought that I flirt with is:
- maybe Its a law of averages type thing. I do all these different things, then BAM! One hits and I can make a comfortable (or above average) living.
My hobbies include (but are not limited to): Writing, music(I play drums, bass, cello, and am currently teaching myself keys), being a car enthusiast, anime, quantum physics, photography/videography, philosophy, tech, wannabe inventor(just coming up with ideas and writing them down), app developer, and fashion.
I have seasons for some. Others are more consistent.
I gotta figure something out. I'm 28 and don't make enough from my job to move out.
Some, I question the validity of their hobby-hood lol (done it once or worked on it for a few months)
I don't want to seem like I'm bragging. I wish I could focus more or go more in depth or like...ya know...make Bill money with at least one of those lol.
Hobby hopping is something I relate to heavy as someone who is into many things. I think itās ok for things to have their own time and fade but overall contributes to how we develop and enjoy things
I agree! But, having one skill that gives meaning to all the hobbies greatly helps. Like, building a portfolio or writing about the hobbies to reach more readers. Thank you for reading! ^^
I just stumbled upon your newsletter to realize how relatable it is! I too sometimes feel like I have too many hobbies :') I'm somewhat consistent in some, and love them all, but sometimes I have a hard time deciding what I want to do.
Right now my favs are writing, drawing, painting, running, and reading, though I've had many others...
Animating (2D), editing, cooking, organizing my notion setup (lol), photography, probably others I forget
And yes, when I'm asked my hobbies I usually just generalize. Feels like too much to say all of them. Now that I think about it, it does feel a bit weird. I just don't understand how people can't have more hobbies, there's so much interesting stuff out there.
This is very relatable. I have a lot of hobbies and jump around a lot as well. I also for some reason try to monetize most of them, which (I think) causes me to burn out and jump to another hobby. Working on this. Some of my past and present hobbies are: making beaded jewelry, oil painting, knitting, playing padel, kickboxing, reading, creative writing, traveling, and gardening.
I think you shouldnāt feel bad for jumping around though. Let yourself explore and enjoy the process. Of course, if youāre looking to turn one into a career/money maker, some focus will help. š§š»āāļø
Awesome post, Harshini! I think that maybe as humans, we're naturally multipotentialites. I also wondered what my true hobbies were, because I could not really pinpoint THE ONE thing that I loved.
Like you said, maybe it is the combination of all your hobbies that we can tie into a skill. And this is also what constitutes your unique personality.
Btw, from your art collage and descriptions, I can see your wide range of creativity. Exploration of interests and styles is such a great way to spend time.
Relatable! Beautiful work. I've been involved in a bit of academic work around creativity. And that finds that it works like this for many people. The baseline mental behaviours that favour creativity also foster a stance connected to multi-modality. (Tolerance of experimentation and failure, flexibility, tendencies to innovate etc). Can try to dig out some academic studies if you need.
Awesome! I do not know much about creative studies yet. But, I'll probably message you if I need to know something. And thank you so much for reading and leaving a comment! ^^

Wow! That's sounds fun! I've been wanting to try out adult coloring books too.
Thank you for reading! ^^
I had a coloring book too, need to continue on the one I have done half way. Lol š¤£
Once I finish it, I will post to show y'all.
I'm excited to see it! Tag me when you share it so I won't miss. :D
Sure. šš
Same, please! š

Thanks for your thoughts :)
I usually tell just a few hobbies when asked too. Even though they just barely scratch the surface.
You have a lot of interesting hobbies!
Thank you for the thoughtful comment, Azark! I'm glad it resonated.

Thanks! I took way too much time picking the ones to include in the collage, though. Lol.
